The combination of magnifying glasses and different types of rocks made for an interesting week of discovery for our preschool friends. They explored new terms such as solid, smooth, and bumpy, made comparisons between rocks of different shapes and sizes and even had an opportunity to paint their own rocks to take home. This week's study influenced different areas of learning such as math and science skills when they estimated and compared, social skills when they worked collaboratively to share their rocks for group study, and language development when they were introduced to new terms and engaged in child to child and child to teacher interactions.Learning takes many forms and can be introduced through something as simple as an ordinary rock found in your own garden. |
